HWL Donates School Materials to Ebola Survivors

first_imgHOPE Worldwide Liberia (HWL), a faith-based relief and development organization that is working in the country to alleviate suffering and injustice through education and community health, last Saturday, April 18, donated school materials to Ebola affected children and survivors. The donations were presented to seven institutions and health centers in Montserrado County. The institutions that benefited from the donations include Orphan Vulnerable Children (OVC) from ELWA Hospital, Persons Living Association of Liberia in Sinkor, District #2, and District #5 in Montserrado County, Shara and the Kingdom Foundation in Soul Clinic Community.  Dorbor M. Suah, HWL Executive Director, who made the presentations on behalf of the organization, said the donations were intended to help children whose parents died during the Ebola epidemic to get back to school. He said since the Ebola outbreak, children and their families have been exposed to extreme distress due to factors that include loss of family or perpetual family separation, isolation and overall disruption of society.According to the HWL executive, children have been especially frightened by prolonged confinement at home or at the various isolation units where they witnessed the suffering and passing away of their family members before their eyes.Although the numbers of new Ebola cases have declined, orphans and child survivors continue to face abandonment and stigmatization in their respective communities.Mr. Suah also disclosed that his organization in partnership with the United Kingdom-based HOPE Worldwide International is expected to pay the yearly tuition for seven of the affected children in each of the selected communities upon receiving their final academic clearances.“Though HWL is taking some time to cater to the affected children, we are sure of what we do, and want to maintain a good relationship because we don’t want to be liars. This is why we are here to give each of you a book bag,” he explained.Mr. Suah then called on the children to pray along with them to ensure that other humanitarian organizations reach out to them for their onward support.Community dwellers as well as students who benefited from items distributed by the leadership of HWL expressed gratitude to the organization. They called on other faith based organizations to emulate the good example of the Hope Worldwide-Liberia.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
