Ghana ‘to cook its way’ to become a food sport nation

first_imgWe’ve all heard the saying “Everything’s bigger in Texas” — and the World Food Championships is here to show you that it’s true. The Lone Star State is home to nearly 26.5 million people, or 8.4% of the total U.S. population. Most of this population is concentrated around cities including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin but don’t be astonished as Go Ghana is excited to make this BIG announcement for GHANA and begin our transition to one of the largest sporting event in the world. The World Food Championships (WFC), also known as the Olympics of Food Competitions, is the largest and highest stakes of varieties of food competitions in the world. This multi-day, live-event culinary competition showcases some of the world’s best cooking masters competing in cooking foods for laurels, fame and fortune in ten categories: Bacon, Barbecue, Burger, Chef, Chili, Dessert, Recipe, Sandwich, Seafood and Steak. The WFC now is in its 8th year of production and its taking up the top notch event to an extremely exciting level and making it even BIGGER–Texas style. This event will draw in approximately 60,000+ buyers from all over the restaurant, foodservice, sporting and hospitality industries. This year’s Main Event will be held in Dallas, Texas at Reunion Tower Lawn, October 16 – 20. Go Ghana LLC is currently in the process of establishing a partnership with the World Food Championships to organize the International Qualifier for the country  Ghana in West Africa… the Food Championships of Ghana. As such, Go Ghana may establish events to serve as Qualifiers for the WFC. All competitors from the country of Ghana must come through the qualifying system that Go Ghana LLC establishes in cooperation with the World Food Championships. Bringing the Ghanaian Chefs and Home Cooks to WFC for their first ever live appearance will be a very rich historic experience. There will be an African Hospitality Pavilion at this year’s WFC. Located in the heart of the action, the African Pavilion will be THE ultimate foodie experience during the championships and special networking opportunities with influential figures in the world of food, sports, tourism business, and development. Not only is this an opportunity for potential sponsors to promote their products but entities, organizations and councils can effectively leverage our International Qualifiers and our Main Event to promote tourism and the Ghanaian  culture. The WFC platform has given birth to “Food Sport” by providing a level playing field, a fair judging system and panel, innovative and a world class culinary programming, ambassador opportunities, TV visibility and a process that allows talented culinary teams to gain the respect they deserve and above all raise the standards in the cooking field to meet the appreciable international level. Over the course of the event’s history, WFC has awarded more than $2 million in cash and prizes, garnered more than 6.9 billion media impressions and connected 300+ food brands with food fans, food bloggers and food contestants. Last year’s event boasted over 500 competitors (more than 1,450 contestants) from 12 countries around the world and 47 States of America. Those competitors vied for the total prize purse of $250,000. After the main event last November in Orange Beach, Alabama, ten Category Champions faced off for a grand prize of $100,000 at the Final Table in February of 2019. The ultimate food fight is a five days of nonstop, high-paced, tournament-style cooking. This competition is as fierce as any football game. The scoring system levels the judging field so that dishes from different categories can be evaluated against one another, unique in the competitive Food Sport arena. Go Ghana’s partnership (Taste of Ghana) with the World Food Championships will help preserve Ghana’s culinary heritage by actively developing the kind of tourism that will leverage these tastes and experiences. Go Ghana’s partnership will funnel the country’s best chefs and cooks into WFC.—last_img read more
