A motorcyclist was killed on Thursday, while his daughter-in-law is battling for her life after the motorcycle on which they were riding collided with a motorcar at Clifton Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.Dead: Ramdat YadramThe dead man has been identified as 47-year-old Ramdat Yadram of Lot 165 Block 14, Tain Settlement, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne). His 20-year-old daughter-in-law, Nicola Mangar, remains a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital.Based on information received, on the day in question at about 21:15h, Yadram and Mangar were riding along the roadway when they came into contact with a motorcar bearing registration number HC 5547 that was being driven by a 61-year-old resident of Canefield, East Canje, Berbice.Initial investigations by the Police revealed that Yadram failed to stop at an intersection before making his way onto the main access road. It was at that time he came into contact with the motorcar, which was travelling along the roadway, allegedly at a fast rate.Injured: Nicola MangarAs a result of the collision, both Yadram and Mangar fell on the roadway and sustained injuries. They were picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where Yadram succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. Mangar, on the other hand, was treated and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was admitted as a patient in a critical condition.When Guyana Times arrived at the scene, eyewitnesses related that after the accident, the driver of the motorcar brought the car to a halt and fled the scene. Reports are that he refused to render assistance to the two injured people.He was later arrested and is in Police custody assisting with investigations. According to Vehram, son of the dead man, his father and wife were heading home when the accident occurred. He claimed he was riding behind them on his pedal cycle.He described his father as a loving and kind individual who always takes care of the family. His body is at the Port Mourant Hospital Mortuary awaiting a Post-Mortem.
