Forget about signing Bale – AVB

dvpofysu

first_img Press Association Bale picked up his Footballer of the Year award at the Football Writers’ Association dinner in central London. Less than two weeks earlier he had done the double at the PFA Awards, where he won Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. The more accolades he wins, the more rumours continue to circulate that Real Madrid will launch a big-money bid for the player this summer. Bale showered praise on Tottenham and the Barclays Premier League as he collected his FWA prize, though, and Villas-Boas was more bullish than ever about his prospects of keeping the player. He said: “I have those guarantees (that Bale will stay). You can always make your own understanding from what the player says and how he feels. “He is very, very driven to be successful but you can see that he is enjoying his football and all of the indications that I have are that he will continue.” Villas-Boas concedes the situation would be helped, though, if Bale signed an extension to his current contract, which runs out in three years’ time, saying: “It would be good for him (to sign a new deal). “I think he deserves it for the season he’s had. Obviously we could put to bed every single speculation that’s coming out, which we are calm about. It would be excellent and I think a reward for what he has achieved this season.” Spurs will look to Bale for inspiration on Sunday when they travel to Stoke knowing a win would move them into fourth ahead of Arsenal’s game in hand against Wigan on Tuesday. Moyes took on the biggest challenge of his career this week when he agreed to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager at the end of the season. The 50-year-old will, no doubt, be given a big transfer kitty to ensure that he starts his reign with a bang. After scoring 30 goals for club and country this year, Bale is the hottest property in Europe right now, but Villas-Boas doubts even Manchester United could afford to sign him this summer, and the Tottenham manager said: “I’m pretty sure that whatever David does in the market will be excellent. But to get a player of Gareth’s dimension is firstly not in our interests but also very, very difficult to get.” center_img Andre Villas-Boas has told David Moyes to forget about putting Gareth Bale at the top of his shopping list this summer.last_img read more

ronplzeq

first_imgA resident of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, is presently nursing head injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he lost control of his motorcycle in the wee hours of Saturday morning and was thrown into a nearby ditch. The damaged motorcycle on the roadAnthoney Murphy was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the Montrose Public Road, East Coast Demerara – which is closed and currently under construction – when he lost control of motorcycle CG 3472.Speaking with Guyana Times, a police rank stated that the accident occurred at about 04:40h.The rank explained that the area has the necessary traffic/construction signs erected along the road to alert drivers of the road works but Murphy failed to pay heed to warnings and proceeded. As a result, the cyclist received injuries to his head and was rushed to the city hospital by an ambulance. He was admitted a patient and is undergoing treatment. On Wednesday evening, also on the Montrose Public Road, a Route 44 minibus, bearing registration number BVV 9628, toppled after reportedly driving onto the bridge at about 20:00h.A few passengers in the minibus received minor injuries.Inquiries revealed that the minibus was proceeding along the southern side of the road at a fast rate of speed when it swerved onto the bridge, causing it to turn over on its right side before crashing into motorcar PLL 6444.Persons have complained of the manner in which the East Coast Road Expansion is being conducted. One driver said he thinks the project was a“good” one. However, the Government needs to ensure the necessary infrastructure such as lights and road markings are added to the road swiftly. The US$50.2 million East Coast road expansion project has two components. One features a four-lane expansion of the road from Better Hope to Annandale and the other caters for an upgrade to the existing two-lane road from Annandale to Belfield.Guyana had received a US$45.3 million concessional loan from the China EXIM (Export-Import) Bank to finance the road project, and that agreement was signed in January last year.Upon completion of the widening and improvement of the East Coast Demerara Highway, citizens travelling along the East Coast will benefit from reduced travel time and less traffic congestion. Apart from the road being expanded, the project includes improved drainage for the East Coast, which is usually susceptible to floods.last_img read more
