New Delhi Former India skipper Kapil Dev has resi

first_imgNew Delhi: Former India skipper Kapil Dev has resigned from his post as the head of the three-member ad-hoc Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Sources in the know of developments said that Kapil has resigned from the position. “Yes, he has sent his resignation from the position of CAC chief.” “There should have ideally been an official announcement from the Committee of Administrators (CoA) that the committee is disbanded since Vinod Rai has been vocal about the fact that it was an appointment done only for the selection of the head coach of the Indian team. Also Read – We will push hard for Kabaddi”s inclusion in 2024 Olympics: Rijiju”Maybe in that case, the embarrassment that the legends are facing the conflict notice could have been avoided,” the source added. The former Indian captain’s decision to resign from the CAC comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ethics Officer D.K. Jain sent a notice to the panel comprising of Kapil, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy with regards to allegations of conflict of interest as claimed by MPCA life member Sanjeev Gupta. Also Read – Djokovic to debut against Shapovalov at Shanghai MastersRangaswamy had resigned the day after she was served with the notice to explain her stand on holding multiple positions in the board in violation of the BCCI constitution. The former India cricketer had said that people complaining is fine, but if the Ethics Officer picks up every complaint then it creates a difficult scenario and getting former cricketers to come into administration will be difficult. “I gave my resignation from the CAC, as also the directorship of the players association. Last night, I mailed it to the concerned authorities. Now, I can understand individuals complaining. But if the Ethics Officer acts on that then it is not worth continuing. And I think one of the pressing demands for the new BCCI committee will be to provide clarity on this conflict of interest clause and from where are they looking to get eligible cricketers in key committees,” she rued. The legal team of the BCCI under the CoA had given the trio a green light to be a part of the CAC and it appointed the new head coach of the Indian team.last_img read more

first_imgNew Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday Article 370 of the Constitution was a roadblock for the development of Jammu and Kashmir and the journey of progress in the region began with the launch of the Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express train. Accompanied by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Union ministers Jitendra Singh and Harsh Vardhan, Shah flagged off the train from the New Delhi railway station. The ministers said the twin moves of the government — abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and launch of the Vande Bharat Express — will bring new India to a new Jammu and Kashmir and create a new history for the region. Also Read – India gets first tranche of Swiss account details under automatic exchange framework Flagging off the second such indigenous train, Shah said, “I believe that not only Article 370 was a roadblock for the unity of this country, but it was also the biggest roadblock for the development of Kashmir. I am sure that after the removal of this Article, we will be successful in completely eradicating terrorism and the ideas promoting terrorism in the area.” “Within the next 10 years, Jammu and Kashmir will be one of the most-developed regions of the country and the journey of development has begun with Vande Bharat Express, which is set to boost development and promote religious tourism,” he added. Also Read – Afghan Taliban frees 3 Indian hostages in exchange for 11 top militant leaders: Reports Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh said the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was a gift for the people of the region after “three decades of struggle” and the launch of the train was another gift, which would contribute in building a “new Jammu and Kashmir”. “The Vande Bharat Express will bring new India to a new Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary (on October 2), Shah said Gandhi gave a philosophy to the world about how to derive simple solutions to the biggest of problems. He expressed pride in saying that the Vande Bharat Express was totally “swadeshi” and at par with the latest rail transport technology across the world. “The railways should document its relationship with Mahatma Gandhi as it forms a significant episode in the country’s freedom struggle,” Shah said. The Vande Bharat Express will cut the travel time between Delhi and Katra to eight hours from the previous 12 hours. The New Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express (train number 22439) will depart from the New Delhi railway station at 6 am to reach Katra at 2 pm. En route, it will halt at Ambala Cantonment, Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi for two minutes each. On the return journey the same day, the Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express (train number 22440) will leave from the Katra railway station at 3 pm to reach New Delhi at 11 pm. The train, also known as Train 18, will ply on all days of the week barring Tuesday. “The abrogation of Article 370 has connected the people of the country to Jammu and Kashmir and I believe that this train will become the symbol of the development and progress that this region will see in the years to come because of this brave move by the government,” Goyal said. He also promised that the railways will connect the country “from Kashmir to Kanyakumari” before August 15, 2022. The first Vande Bharat Express that runs between Delhi and Varanasi was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February. The New Delhi-Katra train has a bigger pantry compared to the first Train 18. It also has windows with a special provision to protect against stone-pelting and a cattle guard in the front to prevent damage to the train or derailment in case of cattle being run over. To avoid damage due to stray cattle, the train has been equipped with a sturdy aluminium-clad nose cover. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has added a slew of modern features such as adjustable seats, improved wash basins, automatic doors and WiFi to the coaches of the train.last_img read more

Mumbai Russell Peters describes comedians across

ntzcglan

first_imgMumbai: Russell Peters describes comedians across the world in today’s times as the “truth tellers”, the last unbiased lot who call a spade a spade through their craft. Someone once described the truth as a poetry to Russell, he recalls, before adding, “And everyone hates poetry.” “We are the last of the truth tellers. We live in a time where you’re not sure which version of the news you’re getting. It’s all skewed towards someone’s favour. Comedians are the unbiased ones who are able to tell you what’s really going on. We tell it to you in no uncertain terms,” Russell told PTI. Also Read – ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ has James Cameron’s fingerprints all over it: Arnold Schwarzenegger Speaking the truth through jokes can often offend people but the Indo-Canadian comedian believes there is nothing that can’t be sorted out if people have a dialogue. “People take offence online but have you ever physically met one of these offended people? I’m almost convinced they don’t really exist. Until I physically meet any of these people I’m not going to believe they’re real. My goal is to make you laugh so if you take offence chances are you’re the problem and not me.” Also Read – Salman pays tribute to Vinod Khanna on ‘Dabangg 3’ wrap up Russell is currently in country as part of his ‘Deported World Tour’ where is performing at Zee Live’s Supermoon. Russell started his career nearly 30 years ago and says he just can’t “physically sit down” to write his material and hasn’t done that ever. “Like right now with the Deported World Tour, it’s already set. I know the begining middle and the end. From November, I’ll have nothing, I’ll walk on stage with a blank slate and I’ve six shows that weekend with zero material. “Basically it’ll be me talking to the audience and trying to figure it out. Once I get a direction that I like or something new hits me, that’s where it gets exciting: ‘Oh I can’t believe I thought of that, let’s go down that road.’ It’s a fun but scary process at the same time.” The comedian says the last thing he would want from the audience is to walk out of his show and wonder, “What the hell was that?” “It’s something we definitely don’t want happening. Some comics don’t give a damn if you walk away but they have a certain level of privilege that I don’t have. A lot of comedians understand or feel their position in the business is precarious. That’s what keeps me alive.” Though the 49-year-old has been in the comedy scene for most of his life, Russell says it is vital for stand up comics to keep themselves updated. “The way to be relevant is to just keep doing it. You could stagnate yourself, I could’ve done it to myself many years ago by doing the same kind of comedy over and over but eventually it would’ve tired people. I would get bored doing it. I don’t want to hear me doing the same joke. “Comedy is like a fights sport. If you’re weak, you’re going to get taken out. You have to have a fighting spirit,” he adds.last_img read more
