Baylor could be without two of its defensive tackles on Saturday when it comes calling in Stillwater. Beau Blackshear and Byron Bonds are both doubtful, according to Art Briles.Baylor injury update direct from CAB: DT Beau Blackshear (doubtful), DT Byron Bonds (doubtful).— Tim Griffin (@TimGriffinBig12) November 16, 2015According to Baylor’s depth chart, Blackshear starts and Bonds backs him up. This will be an issue no matter what, but especially if Mike & Mike decide to thump with the pace a little bit. This is what happens when all your big boy games are at the end of the season. Throw Seth Russell, Jimmy Bean, Ryan Simmons and probably Blake Jarwin on that list and you have about 85 percent (for Baylor, less) of what these teams were from a health standpoint just a month ago.If you’re looking for the comments section, it has moved to our forum, The Chamber. New Delhi: India’s 4x400m mixed relay team can reach the final of the Doha World Championships despite the absence of top quarter-miler Hima Das, deputy chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair said on Thursday. World junior champion Hima was on Wednesday ruled out of the showpiece event beginning on September 27 due to her persistent back injury in a setback to the Indian team which was putting a lot of hope in the newly introduced mixed 4x400m relay event. The top eight finishers in the relay events of the World Championships will automatically qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. India qualified in the World Championships as the 14th ranked team in the mixed 4x400m relay based on its Asian Games gold winning time of 3:15.71. Jisna Mathew, Poovamma and VK Vismaya were named along with Jacob Amoj, Anas and Noah Tom Nirmal for the 4x400m mixed relay. Meanwhile in another development, Anas will not run in the individual 400m race as the Athletics Federation of India did not enter his name for the event despite crossing the qualifying mark. He has been entered only for the men’s 4x400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay. The world athletics governing body IAAF on Thursday released the provisional entry list of the athletes, country-wise as well as event-wise, and Anas’ name was there only in the men’s 4x400m and mixed 4x400m relay, and not in the individual 400m race. “We have not entered Anas for individual 400m as we thought he can help the country better in the men’s 4x400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay. We have good chance to do well in the relays, especially in the mixed 4x400m relay,” an AFI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity. Anas, however, said that he did not know that he will not be running in the individual 400m race. “I did not know about that (not running individual 400m). I will have to check with AFI or coaches,” Anas said from his training base in Europe. Anas had crossed the World Championships qualifying mark of 45.30 at the Kladno international meet in the Czech Republic on July 13 by clocking 45.21, while also bettering his own earlier national record (45.24) in the process.
Houston: President Donald Trump has praised the contributions of the influential and thriving Indian-American community in the country, saying he was “truly proud” to have them as Americans. You uphold our values. You uplift our communities. You are truly proud to be Americans and we are proud to have you as Americans. It is estimated that there are about 500,000 Indians in the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of India in Houston. The two largest concentrations are in Houston and Dallas and their suburbs which have approximately 150,000 Indians each. Trump pointed out that over the last two years, the unemployment rate among Indian-Americans dropped by nearly 33 1/3rd per cent. The president acknowledged that the Indian-American community was helping to strengthen the country. “Indian Americans are pioneering, groundbreaking medicines save countless lives. They are developing revolutionary technology that is changing the world and they are founding new businesses that provide jobs to thousands to our fellow citizens. Trump said along with Prime Minister Modi, he was looking forward to working with the Indian-American community to make the two countries even more prosperous than ever before. He noted that Indian companies employed tens of thousands of Americans across a range of industries in the US. Trump said his administration believes that it was “our first duty is ‘we must always be there for the American people’ whether it is African Americans, Hispanic-Americans or Indian-Americans. “We are going to take care of our citizens first, we are going to care of our Indian-Americans before we take care of illegal immigrants who want to pour into our country,” the president said. “America has always been a nation of pioneers and patriots, risk-takers and free thinkers and dedicated workers who have honed their trade, mastered their field, and teach their children to always give their very, very best. “Everyday, Indian-Americans help write this story of American greatness and everyone here today has a crucial part to play in building an even grander and greater American and Indian future. Houston is one of the most ethnically diverse cites in the US and according to media reports, oil-rich Texas is a must-win state for President Trump in the elections next year. On his part, Prime Minister Modi too gave tacit support for Trump’s 2020 re-election bid, saying ‘Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar”. “We in India have connected well with President Trump. The words of candidate Trump – Abki Baar Trump Sarkar rang loud and clear and his celebration in the White House lit up millions of faces with joy and appreciation,” Modi said. Modi’s pitch could help Trump in winning votes of the nearly four million Indian-Americans who have traditionally voted for the Democratic Party. “You can feel the strength and depth of human bonds between our two great nations. People are at the heart of all relationships from Houston to Hyderabad, from Boston to Bengaluru, from Chicago to Shimla, from Los Angeles to Ludhiana, from New Jersey to New Delhi,” Modi said. He noted that hundreds of millions were glued to their TV even across the world and they were witnessing history in the making. “Mr. President, you had introduced me to your family in 2017 and today I have the honour to introduce you to my family, over a billion Indians and people of Indian heritage around the globe,” the prime minister said as he introduced the US President at the “Howdy, Modi!” event. Soon after the gala event, an impressed Trump tweeted to say, “The USA loves India!” He described as “incredible” the electric atmosphere at the NRG arena in Houston.
Kolkata: Production of Coal India Ltd (CIL) is likely to take a hit on Tuesday as workmen unions have decided to go on one-day strike to protest against the centre’s decision to allow 100 percent foreign direct investment in coal mining. Five federations representing over half-a-million workers of Coal India Ltd and Singareni Collieries, called for the strike on September 24, seeking withdrawal of the central government’s decision regarding the foreign direct investment in coal mining. “All five federations except BMS are going to observe the strike on Tuesday,” All India Coal Workers’ Federation General Secretary DD Ramanandan said. Coal India produces around 2 million tonne of coal a day and the state-run miner accounts for over 80 per cent of the country’s coal production. Challenging Reena Kashyap will be Congress veteran and former Speaker Gangu Ram Musafir, who had lost the poll to Suresh Kashyap in 2012 and also 2017. Musafir was elected to the assembly first time in 1982 as an independent candidate but later had joined the Congress to become a cabinet minister thrice and also Speaker. He has won seven elections. In Dharamshala, the Congress is trying its luck on Vinay Inder Karan, a youth leader, who also belong to Gaddi community as being Nehria. First time, the battle will be within two Gaddi leaders, who claim to have a sizeable vote percentage in Dharamshala – where Krishan Kapoor been their face and strong Gaddi community leader. Karan’s name cropped up after former minister and a staunch Virbhadra Singh loyalist declined to contest the poll. There were also rumours about his joining the BJP if the party agrees to field him as its candidate. Asked about this BJP state president Satpal Satti said, “The party had taken a principled stand to give ticket only to a person from the party cadres. No outsider was considered for the ticket.” Dharamshala will be a big political testing ground for the BJP once again as it’s also in Kangra region, where BJP senior Shanta Kumar been calling shots. Shanta Kumar was denied Lok Sabha ticket and instead was replaced by Krishan Kapoor.

San Francisco: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has promised his employees to “fight and win” if Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren wins the 2020 election and moves forward with her stated plan to break up the big US tech firms. Adopting a more aggressive style than he habitually uses in his public appearances, Zuckerberg directed his remarks at his employees last July to address questions about the firm’s present and future, an interview that was recorded and made public on Tuesday on the Web page The Verge, Efe news reported. But look … if someone’s going to try to threaten something that existential, you go to the mat and you fight,” he said. Also Read – New HP Pavilion x360 notebook with in-built Alexa in India Zuckerberg was referring to the Massachusetts senator’s proposal to split up the biggest tech firms – if she wins the Democratic presidential nomination and is ultimately elected in 2020 – given that she feels that they have “excessive” power both as market entities and in relation to their users or customers. On Tuesday, after the audio recording of Zuckerberg was released, Warren doubled down on her proposal and said on Twitter that “What would really ‘suck’ is if we don’t fix a corrupt system that lets giant companies like Facebook engage in illegal anticompetitive practices, stomp on consumer privacy rights, and repeatedly fumble their responsibility to protect our democracy.” “I’m not afraid to hold Big Tech companies like Facebook, Google, and Amazon accountable. It’s time to #BreakUpBigTech,” the senator said in another tweet. In the recordings provided by The Verge, Zuckerberg justified his opposition to Warren’s plan by – among other things – saying that dividing big companies will not make interference in elections less likely, rather the reverse, given that in his judgment “the companies can’t coordinate and work together.” The tech giant based in Menlo Park, California, in recent years has been mired in a multitude of scandals that have significantly strained its public image, the biggest of these being the one involving British consulting firm Cambridge Analytica, which used an app to gather personal data on millions of Facebook users without their consent and then used that info for political ends. The consulting firm prepared psychological profiles on voters that it allegedly sold to the campaign of President Donald Trump during the runup to the 2016 election, among other things. Facebook is being investigated for potential monopolistic practices by the Federal Trade Commission, which earlier this year levied a $5 billion fine on the firm for failing to properly maintain user privacy.

New Delhi: Former India skipper Kapil Dev has resigned from his post as the head of the three-member ad-hoc Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Sources in the know of developments said that Kapil has resigned from the position. “Yes, he has sent his resignation from the position of CAC chief.” “There should have ideally been an official announcement from the Committee of Administrators (CoA) that the committee is disbanded since Vinod Rai has been vocal about the fact that it was an appointment done only for the selection of the head coach of the Indian team. Last night, I mailed it to the concerned authorities. Now, I can understand individuals complaining. But if the Ethics Officer acts on that then it is not worth continuing. And I think one of the pressing demands for the new BCCI committee will be to provide clarity on this conflict of interest clause and from where are they looking to get eligible cricketers in key committees,” she rued. The legal team of the BCCI under the CoA had given the trio a green light to be a part of the CAC and it appointed the new head coach of the Indian team.

Remembering Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary (on October 2), Shah said Gandhi gave a philosophy to the world about how to derive simple solutions to the biggest of problems. He expressed pride in saying that the Vande Bharat Express was totally “swadeshi” and at par with the latest rail transport technology across the world. “The railways should document its relationship with Mahatma Gandhi as it forms a significant episode in the country’s freedom struggle,” Shah said. The Vande Bharat Express will cut the travel time between Delhi and Katra to eight hours from the previous 12 hours. The New Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express (train number 22439) will depart from the New Delhi railway station at 6 am to reach Katra at 2 pm. En route, it will halt at Ambala Cantonment, Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi for two minutes each. On the return journey the same day, the Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express (train number 22440) will leave from the Katra railway station at 3 pm to reach New Delhi at 11 pm. The train, also known as Train 18, will ply on all days of the week barring Tuesday. “The abrogation of Article 370 has connected the people of the country to Jammu and Kashmir and I believe that this train will become the symbol of the development and progress that this region will see in the years to come because of this brave move by the government,” Goyal said. He also promised that the railways will connect the country “from Kashmir to Kanyakumari” before August 15, 2022. The first Vande Bharat Express that runs between Delhi and Varanasi was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February. The New Delhi-Katra train has a bigger pantry compared to the first Train 18. It also has windows with a special provision to protect against stone-pelting and a cattle guard in the front to prevent damage to the train or derailment in case of cattle being run over. To avoid damage due to stray cattle, the train has been equipped with a sturdy aluminium-clad nose cover. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has added a slew of modern features such as adjustable seats, improved wash basins, automatic doors and WiFi to the coaches of the train.

Sivasagar (Assam): A sessions court here on Thursday awarded death sentence to Bikash Das for raping two women before murdering them and dumping their bodies in train toilets last year. Besides holding him guilty for his offence under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (murder), sessions judge S K Poddar also awarded Das rigorous life imprisonment for offence punishable under 376(1) IPC (rape) and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. If he fails to pay the fine, his sentence would continue for another three months, the court said. The sessions judge on September 27 had let off Das’s accomplice due to lack of evidence. A 21-year-old student of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, was on July 10, 2018, found lying murdered with a ‘gamosa’ (an Assamese hand woven towel) tied around her neck in the toilet of an empty coach of Kamakhya Express at Simaluguri Railway Junction. The next day, on July 11, the body of a middle-aged woman was recovered from the toilet of a coach meant for physically challenged people of Dibrugarh-Rajasthan Avadh Assam Express. The woman, too, had a ‘gamosa’ tied around her neck with blood oozing out of the nose. Das was nabbed on July 12 from Tinsukia Railway Junction. He confessed to have raped and murdered the two women along with an accomplice. The RPF and police officers had said that Das was apprehended after a security man noticed him with a ‘gamosa’, similar to the one used for stifling the two victims. The police had also recovered the mobile phones of the victims from him, a pair of earrings which belonged to the student and an anklet of the middle-aged woman, the officials added. While pronouncing the verdict, the sessions court said that Das’s death sentence, however, is subject to confirmation by the Gauhati High Court, adding that he has been informed about his right to appeal against the judgment in a higher court.

The ED claimed that several companies, in which Kapoor was a shareholder along with Talwar, received the proceeds of the crime. It said the agency’s probe in this regard was underway. Kapoor had sought anticipatory bail claiming that the ED threatened her to take names and also to convince Talwar to give names of government officials or political functionaries, failing which she would be arrested. Talwar was deported from the UAE in connection with the money-laundering case. The ED had earlier said it needed to interrogate Talwar to get the names of Ministry of Civil Aviation, National Aviation Company of India Ltd and Air India officials, who had favoured the foreign airlines, including Qatar Airways, Emirates and Air Arabia.
New Delhi: Former Union finance minister P Chidambaram’s bail plea in the INX Media corruption case will come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on Friday. The matter has been listed for hearing before a bench of justices R Banumathi and Hrishikesh Roy. The former finance minister on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in the INX Media corruption case saying his continuing incarceration is in the “form of punishment” and liberty of an individual cannot be denied on the basis of “anonymous and unverified allegations”. Citing “frail” health, the 74-year-old senior Congress leader has also said that he is not “accustomed” to food given to him in the jail and has lost 4 kg weight in during his judicial custody. Challenging the Delhi High Court’s September 30 verdict rejecting his bail plea, Chidambaram said he had never attempted to approach or influence any witnesses or accused in the case. Also Read – Firms staying closed 10 days a month due to recession, govt doing nothing: Priyanka GandhiThe high court had dismissed his bail plea saying the investigation was at an advanced stage and the possibility of his influencing the witnesses cannot be ruled out. A Delhi court meanwhile extended his judicial custody in the case on Thursday to October 17 In his plea in the apex court, Chidambaram said, “Bail is the rule, jail is the exception. Arrest and custody are a humiliation and social stigma. The prosecution seems to think that prolonged judicial custody is a punishment they can impose on the Petitioner. Courts should frown upon the attempt of the prosecution to use judicial custody as a kind of pre-trial punishment.” Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Chidambaram, mentioned the petition for urgent listing before a bench of justices N V Ramana, Sanjiv Khanna and Krishna Murari. The bench told him that the matter would be placed before Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and he would take a call on its listing. Chidambaram, who was finance minister as well as home minister in the UPA government from 2004 to 2014, was arrested by the CBI from his Jor Bagh residence here on August 21. The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the FIPB clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram’s tenure as the finance minister. Thereafter, the ED lodged a money laundering case in this regard in 2017. In his plea in the top court, Chidambaram has said that “conclusive findings” have been rendered by the high court on the basis of documents placed before it in a “sealed envelope” by the CBI, which were neither part of the record nor shown to him, and he was not given an opportunity to rebut the same. He said that high court has “erred” in dismissing his bail plea on a mere apprehension that he might influence the witnesses, without any supporting material, and on the basis of unverified allegations that do not allege or point anything against him. He also denied the high court’s finding that INX Media’s former promoters Indrani and Peter Mukherjea had met him and “illegal gratification” was paid. “At the outset, firstly, the petitioner (Chidambaram) denies having approached or influenced any witness or accused or even made an attempt to do so, directly or indirectly,” he said. “Secondly, it appears that the above finding (of the high court) is based on alleged statements made by two alleged accused persons and hence can never be read against the petitioner (co-accused) and can in law never tantamount to influencing a witness,” he said in his plea. Chidambaram has further said that case does not relate to “economic offence” and there is no loss to public exchequer.
